Why am I not surprised? Market value is down according to the Orange County Property Appraisers office by 18% from last year yet the assessed value (the taxable value) is &lt;u&gt;&lt;strong&gt;UP&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/u&gt;.&amp;nbsp;How do they get away with this? Well because under Save Our Homes they are allowed to raise the assessed value up to 3% a year even though people are hurting financially, and&amp;nbsp; unemployment is a huge problem. This is because the assessed value is still way below the market value.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;m sorry but I think it is unreasonable and mean spirited to raise taxes during an economic recession. They should be lowering our bills; not raising them! I think each and every one of us should complain to the Property Appraiser&amp;#39;s office. My opinion only, but we may be &lt;u&gt;&lt;strong&gt;past the bottom&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/u&gt; price wise. Finally, inventory supply in the lower price ranges is at a comfortable level. In the $200,000 to $250,000 price range there is a 7 month supply of inventory on the market in Orange and Seminole Counties. That with low interest rates and the $8,000 first time buyer credit the only issue may be finding an available home you like. How can the market in the upper price ranges go anywhere but down???? I believe, if it is in a good area with good growth potential as in the areas surrounding the new Medical City in Southeast Orange County, it can be a great opportunity for a bargain buy and a wonderful investment. In this case the fact that a neighborhood has many short sales is more a function of the fact that it was initially sold during the peak of the real estate cycle in 2005 or 2006 than anything else. Since the whole neighborhood was sold at that time the initial investment was high and when prices dropped to today&amp;#39;s levels many owners found they owed more than their properties were worth. Thus the short sale or foreclosure.
